Egypt Opens Region's First Factory for Archaeological Replicas
The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities opened the factory with the help of the ‘Treasures of Egypt for Archaeological Models’ company to create archaeological replicas as souvenirs for tourists.
A factory has just been inaugurated in Obour, and it’s the first of its kind in Egypt. It’s not tech, it’s not apparel, in fact it deals in the most Egyptian thing ever: artefacts. No worries, it’s all legit. The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities opened the factory with the help of the ‘Treasures of Egypt for Archaeological Models’ company to create little archaeological replicas as souvenirs for tourists and Egyptians alike.
Most replicas you come across in Egyptian marketplaces are actually made in China. The ministry hopes to change that with this new venture. They’re going to be faithful copies of artefacts, differentiated only by the stamp of verification placed by the Supreme Council of Antiquities. None of that blinged-out golden cat keychain nonsense. The products will also feature a barcode that you can scan to find out more about the original artefact.
You can buy these replicas as soon as April 4th from the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization. The museum will be inaugurated following the Pharaohs’ Golden Parade on April 3rd.
