King of the Lagoon

ATTENTION ALL KITESURFING JUNKIES! This September, from the 5th - 7th, sees the fifth edition of King of the Lagoon, Egypt’s biggest kitesurfing competition, where anyone who’s anyone in the kitesurfing world packs up their bags and heads on over to Ras Sudr to show the eager crowds what they're made of. People come in their hoardes, and after last year's success we’re expecting them to be bringing in crowd control measures to keep all the excitement at bay.

This event is the biggest on the calendar for all the watersport addicts out there – from the 5-7th September, the beach will be packed full of sunglasses-and-boardie-wearing fanatatics, slathered with sun cream and ready to spend the weekend out on the beach, cheering on friends and family as they show off their slickest moves in an attempt to become Lagoon royalty. Held at Soul Kitesurfing in the heavenly La Hacienda resort, this year the King of the Lagoon looks to be the best one yet. With ego and bragging rights at stake, the competition should be fierce but despite their outstanding skills, anyone who knows kitesrufers and their laid-back attitudes knows that it's not just about winning, it's about the whole experience. They encourage any one to come and join in. Have a go, have a laugh, and at the end of the day, party the night away on the beach, mingling with winners and wannabes alike.

The categories this year include something for every skill set. Big air, Freestyle and Master Guru are set to be electric events, as you watch the kiters soar into the air and do all sorts of gravity-defying tricks.Watch out for the infamous 15km downwinder, when you’ll see kitersurfers whizz past at speeds you didn’t think were possible.

This is set to be one hell of a weekend – parties, food and activities are an added bonus to the kitesurfing events. Make sure you book a place in advance, as this it is going to get packed. Chill with the ultimate chillers, have a good laugh, a cheeky bit of sunburn and some awesome memories. Just pray for some good wind!
