IFAD & Ministry of Agriculture to Build 8 New Schools in Upper Egypt

Eight new schools are being built across Upper Egypt - seven in Aswan, and one in Beni Seuf - thanks to a joint project between the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD). The project - dubbed the Sustainable Agricultural Investments and Livelihoods Project (SAIL) - was initiated to help smallholder farmers increase their profitability and diversify their incomes.

The SAIL Project covers specific agricultural areas in Aswan, New Valley, Beni Suef and Kafr El Sheikh, and focuses on community development, agricultural development and diversification, project management, and rural financial services. The project has been in effect since 2014, and cost USD 94.67 million in total, USD 69.6 million of which comes from IFAD financing, and USD 15.21 million of which comes from the Egyptian government.
