French Hospitality Giant AccorHotels Group to Open 30 New Hotels in Egypt

Over the upcoming two years, French-owned hotel chain AccorHotels, which in 2018 acquired the Mövenpick Hotels and Resorts brand, is planning a massive expansion in African markets, announcing the launch of 60 new hotels across the continent, with about half of them set to open in Egypt, according to Accor SA's CEO for Middle East and Africa Mark Willis.

Willis further elaborated that while Kenya's coastal region has been a preferred destination in the past few years, Egypt has recently overtaken it as the continent's most preferred destination for European tourists and investors on account of increasing security and stability in the country.

“Egypt is resurrecting after 10 years of a tough situation due to external factors, but is now improving,” said Willis in a recent interview, as seen on Engineering News.

In addition to Egypt, AccorHotels- the world's largest hotel group outside U.S.,  is eyeing investment opportunities in Kenya, Nigeria, Ethiopia, and South Africa. Nigeria is second to Egypt, with 10 planned hotels set to open there. As it stands, Accor has 143 hotels across the continent, with 63 of them operating in the continent's southern regions. AccorHotels operates in 100 countries and employs a quarter million employees across its 4200 hotels around the world.
