Seaciety Crafts Sustainable Swimwear Out of Recycled Plastic Bottles

Flashy tones, recycled materials, and graphic patterns don the swimsuits of Seaciety, a regional swimwear brand expressing a beach lover's passion for the sea through sustainable style. Founded by the self-proclaimed Chief Beach Bum, Sherif Fayed, Seaciety cultivates the spirit of adventure within, through swimwear that embraces beach living and helps preserve the places we love.

Seaciety's designs manage to be as carefree as gliding on ocean waves yet as intentional as shaping them. Fabrics made from recycled plastic bottles, reused into playful patterns, shape the brand's oceanic aesthetic, a reminder of the sea's transformative power. Every swimsuit tells a story of sustainability in action and a dedication to nurturing the health of our planet's precious waters.

With the idea of community in the forefront, as evident by the playful blend of sea and society in the brand's name, Fayed set forth to build more than just a brand, but rather a community bound by a shared love for the sea and a commitment to sustainability.

"The idea of community was integral when creating the brand. Our aim is to bring together a 'seaciety' of individuals who share a passion for the ocean and a dedication to protecting it," Founder Sherif Fayed tells Scene Styled. "As we move forward, growing and nurturing this community remains a key goal. After all, it's through collective action and shared values that we can make the most meaningful impact," Fayed adds.

Having always been drawn to oceans and beaches, Fayed found himself captivated by the allure of the water, and the idea of Seaciety came through after Fayed was jokingly asked by a friend if his closet contained anything other than swim shorts. "It was a lightbulb moment for me - I realised that maybe I could turn my love for the beach and swimwear into something more. That was the spark that led to the creation of my own swimwear brand," Fayed shares.

In an unorthodox approach, Seaciety crafts their signature swimwear using recycled plastic bottles - a feat both incredible and inspiringly innovative. "When I first heard about recycled plastic yarn, I thought to myself 'this must be very uncomfortable,' but I was proven wrong. I was surprised by the feel of it," Fayed shares. "It's amazing what we can do when we put sustainability front and centre."

Being hands-on through direct action lies at the core of Seaciety's efforts to support the environment beyond just using recycled materials. Seeking partnerships with like-minded groups is also crucial, knowing that teaming up and combining resources allows them to achieve more. With upcoming cleanups and collaborations in the works, Seaciety takes on efforts vital to accomplishing their mission of making a tangible and lasting difference for the planet.

Inspired by Fayed's own travel adventures, Seaciety's designs draw inspiration from coastlines throughout the region and the world. From the Seychelles inspired 'Shell Yeah!' to the soulful Egyptian-street-inspired 'Koshary,' each design carries within its seams a story that finds its roots in blissful memories.

"Every destination, every culture, offers a world of inspiration if we just take the time to look. I believe it's these details, these slices of life, that give each of our collections a unique soul and identity," Sherif Fayed shares, shedding light on the importance of a slowed-down life that leaves room for soulful contemplation and imagination.

While launching Seaciety has propelled the entrepreneur's business growth, he has also undergone personal development. As Fayed explains, "Since founding Seaciety, I've found myself growing not just as an entrepreneur but also as an individual. One of the most profound changes has been in my consciousness about environmental impact. Now, I scrutinise the products I use, always considering their environmental footprint and favouring those that align with my values of sustainability." This mindset shift demonstrates the transformative effect of building a brand centred around sustainable values.

And if you're looking for a personal swimsuit recommendation, a little birdie with the initials S & F tells us that 'The Iconic' shorts are a saving grace that also doubles as a casual pair of shorts.
