Egypt Equine Aid has spent the past decade working tirelessly as a source of healing and comfort for Egypt’s working animals, and an advocate for change amongst their caretakers and veterinarians.
Based on a farm in Abu Seer, which is overseen by manager Hazem Abouzeid, Egypt Equine Aid was co-founded by Australian volunteer Jill Barton in 2013 as a non-governmental organisation to serve simultaneously as a hospital and an advocacy hub for working animals in Giza.
Providing healthcare to injured and malnourished horses and donkeys, Egypt Equine Aid has grown into a safe space for animals, a resource for people willing to contribute to the cause, and a precedent for psychological and physical veterinary care. The organisation also provides a training programme for veterinarians, equipping them with the tools necessary to eventually join their team.
