Prince Mohammed Bin Salman Stadium in Qiddiya Unveiled by Populous

In a groundbreaking move, architecture firm Populous has unveiled the design of the Prince Mohammed Bin Salman Stadium, poised to be a highlight of Saudi Arabia’s 2034 World Cup as one of the proposed venues. Nestled atop the Tuwaiq cliff in Qiddiya City, this 45,000-seater stadium offers a glimpse into the future of sports and entertainment.

Imagine a stadium with a retractable roof, pitch, and a colossal LED wall capable of transforming the space into different ‘event modes’ within hours - from a concert to a football match, for example.

Populous, which previously set the standard for football pitches with the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, aims to redefine the stadium experience, ensuring that the Prince Mohammed Bin Salman Stadium isn’t just a soccer arena but a multifunctional hub for sports, concerts, esports, and theatre productions.

The LED wall opens to breathtaking views of Qiddiya City when not in use, creating a seamless connection between the stadium and its surroundings.

Designed with compliance to FIFA requirements, the stadium will be home to Saudi Pro League clubs Al-Hilal and Al-Nassr. The venue will also provide access to Qiddiya City’s Gaming & Esports District.

The stadium’s exterior, a collection of modular cubes, interacts with the Tuwaiq cliff, forming a digital canvas that transcends the traditional stadium typology. Inside, the stadium will have a climate-controlled environment for year-round comfort.
