Keep Your Head in the Game with Richa’s Graffiti Basketball Shorts

After catapulting to regional fashion brand status in late 2018, Richa established itself as our national skater brand. With not much competition to saturate the Egyptian skatewear scene, Richa was tasked with reifying the niche sub-genre and in all honesty, they haven’t disappointed yet.

In its recent endeavor to expand on its nonchalant athletic aesthetic, the brand joined forces with graffiti artist Toxik to bring back the laid-back vibes of 90s hip-hop with a line of basketball shorts.

“Toxik is an ex-basketball player, he was an extensible resource for me because he was familiar with how this works,” Founder Omar Hegazy tells SceneStyled. “Both of us sat down and brainstormed the vision we had for the shorts, he had to be involved in the stylistics of it because it also had to match his own artistic integrity. I can’t just produce any color and then have him try to work with it, we have to plan it together so that we ensure everything is very cohesive.”

The collection is Richa’s dive into multi-textural fashion, having previously stuck with patchwork and adhesive prints, this line features a limited collection of handmade, airbrush painted - yes, with a spray can - and an accompanying collection of printed shorts. The shorts feature Richa’s signature sphinx logo - the same logo that put them on the map - as a way of establishing the basis for identity formation to enable them to be further recognized in and around the local fashion scene.
