Until that three-phase plan concludes and we get a heads-up from the WHO that the pandemic's effectively done, expect these establishments to stay closed.

These Places Will Continue to be Closed Indefinitely Throughout the COVID-19 Pandemic

Last week, the Egyptian government released a 3-phase plan to slowly return the country to normal as we learn to coexist with the Coronavirus. However, due to the continued risk of mass gatherings, there are a few places that will remain closed indefinitely in order to contain the spread of the pandemic as much as possible. Here are the services that will continue to remain shut pending further updates:

  • Restaurants (Non-hotel restaurants will remain operational on a take-away and delivery basis only)
  • Cinemas
  • Theatres
  • Cafés
  • Gyms
  • Sporting clubs
  • Schools and universities

Additionally, wedding parties, funerals and any events with large gatherings will be suspended until further notice.

Celebration venues and nightclubs will remain closed throughout phases one and two, although it has not been confirmed if they will reopen during phase three.

The three phases of the plan are as follows: phase one is a general implementation of safety measures at the workplace that will come into effect soon (no set date has been announced as of yet). Phase two comes 14 days later, but only if new COVID-19 cases have lowered in that time, otherwise we will go back to phase one. Phase three will be put in place 28 days after phase two begins unless COVID-19 cases fail to drop, and will involve a 'watchful waiting' period of light precautionary measures that will only conclude when the WHO announces the end of the pandemic.
