Mariouteya Canal to Become Tourist Walkway in EGP20 Million Glow-Up Project

It's hard to say that the Mariouteya Canal located near Haram St. and underneath the Ring Road exit has seen better days, but that may soon change now that it's undergoing a major glow up project that will turn the area into a tourist walkway. After years of accumulating garbage due to the bus stops sitting opposite the canal, and causing a stream of ongoing traffic problems as a result, it looks like this headache will soon be put to bed.

The three-kilometre Giza canal will begin with two new walls up on each side of its banks to prevent cars from falling in, and will move the bus stops 200 metres away from the area in an attempt to ease traffic congestion.

The project will cost an estimated EGP20 million, and will also help preserve the canal from the pollution that it has been subjected to for years, stopping it from contaminating nearby water sources.
