Egypt Uses Biometrics to Distribute Financial Aid to Refugees

Among the many struggles that come with being a refugee is the challenge of identification - the inability to prove they are who they say they are, or even cases of mistaken identity, brought about by the chaos of their situation could bring their entire life to a standstill. Egypt National Post (ENPO), along with the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR), are partnering with IrisGuard to deploy its innovative EyePay Cash mobile platform in pursuit of facilitating a more secure and fuss-free cash assistance programme to remove that massive roadblock from the path of recovery.

IrisGuard UK is the world leading iris recognition financial delivery platform; they've been employing accurate iris scanning technology to help make the acquisition of remittances easier for refugees all over the world and have now brought it to Egypt. It eliminates the need for identification documents, making the process faster, more private, and more efficient.

As part of Egypt’s National Financial Inclusion Initiative, the initiative aiming at making financial services more accessible for the unbanked and underbanked, the newly-implemented technology enables refugees benefiting from UNHCR assistance to simply scan their iris in order to receive cash at ENPO branches.
