Drug Abuse Rates of School Bus Drivers Hits All Time Low at 0.3%

Drug abuse rates amongst school bus drivers in Egypt have declined to 0.3% in the 2022/2023 school year, reaching an all-time low. According to figures from the Ministry of Social Solidarity, drug abuse rates were as high as 12% in 2017.

The new figures were revealed after drug tests were recently conducted on 12,875 drivers. Drivers who tested positive for drugs will be terminated and face legal action for driving under the influence. The ministry plans to maintain intensified campaigns for early detection of drug abuse among school bus drivers throughout the year.

In 2021, the Egyptian government implemented an Anti-Drug Law for public employees, after the expiration of a six-month grace period allowing confidential reporting and free addiction treatment.
