Buses of the Future: Orange Egypt and Mwasalat Misr Team-Up for State-of-the-Art Service

Telecommunications giant, Orange Egypt, is teaming up with transport provider, Mwasalat Misr, to equip city buses with an integrated smart electronic system that will, at long last, push our daily means of transportation into the 21st century. Live ETIT tracking services, arrival times, travel routes, traffic updates, security cameras and even passenger counts are among the innovative features the new system will provide. Our favourite new addition, though, is that Wi-Fi will be offered at Mwasalat Misr bus stations. Oh yes.

In the same spirit of London’s Oyster Card, Orange Egypt will also be selling the 'Mwasalaty Card' in its store branches in a move to help Egyptians move away from a cash economy and more towards digitisation. The biggest perks, though, will be experienced by actual Orange Egypt customers, who will be able to join a loyalty program when they purchase the cashless rechargeable card. Makes life easier and cheaper, tbh.

“The mass transport market in Egypt is witnessing a new and exciting phase in which the competition is increasing and technology has become an essential part of it," Eng. Yasser Shaker, CEO of Orange Egypt, said of the new venture. "We are honoured to cooperate with Mwasalat Misr, where we will together will introduce a new concept of smart mass transportation in Egypt that Egyptians have always dreamed of through offering a comfortable, safe and smart means of transportation, thus improving the quality of transportation and making life easier for the public."

The collaboration was agreed upon last November between the two companies in an alliance led by the Arab Organization for Industrialization, and is in support of the national efforts to boost digitalization of the economy. The new electronic system will be accompanied by a hotline for passengers to use too, so moving around Cairo really can’t get any easier.
