Ancient Archaeological Finds Unveiled at Asir

The Saudi Arabian Heritage Commission has unveiled the latest findings at the Jerash archaeological dig site in the Asir region, including stone-and-mud dwellings, stone tools, pottery, and beads crafted from precious stones.

These latest discoveries provide further insights into this important site in the southern part of the Kingdom, where Islamic inscriptions have also been found on granite stones located at the site.

Teams have also found evidence of novel architectural approaches in mud dwellings, as well as an ingenious irrigation system, linking an existing well to a central channel which could distribute water to adjacent basins.

Digs such as the one at Jerash, as well as several others within the kingdom, have revealed over 25,000 individual discoveries, the oldest of which dates back to the 1st and 2nd centuries of the Hijri calendar (7th and 8th centuries CE).
