All General Hospitals in Egypt to Provide COVID-19 Testing

Starting today, May 21st, all general hospitals in Egypt will provide tests for the Coronavirus. According to Egypt’s Minister of Health Dr. Hala Zayed, patients will first undergo clinical examinations, blood tests and chest x-rays. Based on whether those results test positive or negative, the patients will be either sent home with medications for their symptoms or will undergo another test – the PCR  - and their case will be examined to decide if it is mild, moderate or severe.

Patients who exhibit only a mild case of COVID-19 will be sent home to self-quarantine and provided with masks, disinfectants and medication. The hospital will follow up with mild cases remotely via a new electronic system. Moderate cases will be sent to youth hostels (designated as quarantine facilities) or student hospitals, while the severe cases – split up into either high, extreme and critical – will be sent to a quarantine hospital.

Additionally, a total of 320 hospitals across Egypt will now be taking in COVID-19 patients in accordance with the conditions mentioned above.
