After 12 Years, Spain Resumes Flights to Luxor

After more than a decade, Spanish airline Iberia has resumed direct flights to Luxor starting with four flights a week. As the ancient site of Thebes and home to the acclaimed Valley of the Kings, Luxor Temple and Karnak Temple, the ancient city of Luxor has had more tourists visiting the area to experience such adventures as Nile cruises and hot air ballooning.

This comes off the back of a previous statement Iberia made last year where they said they were going to continue direct flights from Madrid to Cairo starting from March 2020. While this timely move seems to have been prompted by the much-anticipated opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum, tourism to Luxor has long been rising on an ever-climbing slope.

Tourism revenue in Egypt hit record numbers last year bringing in $12.5 billion and an estimated 12 million tourists, echoing pre-revolution figures of 13.6 million tourists in 2010. Today, more and more airline companies are becoming increasingly confident in sending their passengers to Egypt, starting with direct flights from the UK that landed in Sharm el Sheikh last December.
