Arcade Gallery and Misr El Kheir Foundation Support Families with COVID-19 with Virtual Art Exhibit
20% of the exhibition’s sales will go towards helping Egyptian labourers and families affected by the Coronavirus.
When many of us think of a garage sale, we probably think of American sitcoms featuring hoarders trying to start afresh by selling off all their stuff, with lots of hijinks and nothing taken seriously. But some things need to be taken seriously, and this fully-fledged art exhibition bringing together over 40 budding and established artists to take on the Coronavirus is one of them. The Arcade Gallery exhibition entitled ‘Garage Sale’ – working in collaboration with Misr El Kheir foundation - will be donating 20% of all sales to families and labourers affected by COVID-19. Because the exhibition features the artists’ older pieces of work, it gives art fans the opportunity to buy them at discounted prices starting from EGP 700.
“Because most artists create art specifically for an exhibition, we wanted to create the opportunity to showcase older, unsold pieces," Laila El Farouk, Place Des Arts art school and Arcade Gallery told CairoScene. "This time, we are featuring a wide range of artists, both up-and-coming and well-established with a range of backgrounds, from sculpting, to photography, to classic and pop art.”
The exhibition features works from the likes of award-winning sculptor Ahmed Askalany and the Egyptian king of pop art Hany Rashed. To find the full price list and access the virtual exhibition - which runs until May 31st - search for their two virtual rooms at artspaces.kunstmatrix.com. For inquiries on the availability of a specific piece, contact Arcade Gallery on Instagram, Facebook or by phone via +201019222220.
