Egyptian-Spanish Archaeological Mission Uncovers Unique Cemetery in El Minya

It honestly feels like it'll take another age just to scratch the surface of the entirety of Ancient Egyptian history. Recently, the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities announced the unearthing of a fascinating cemetery in El-Minya. Dating all the way back to the Sawi era – between the 6th and 7th century BC - this specific type of cemetery was cited by the minister as never having been previously discovered in the area of Bahnasa.

The cemetery itself is made up of one room built from polished limestone, with walls exhibiting a curvature from the top to the roof, making it flat as opposed to the vaulted typical of tombs in the area. The excavation also found eight gorgeous tombs that managed to maintain their colour from all the way back in the Roman era, containing tombstones, small crosses, clay seals and bronze coins.
