Luxor to Host the UNWTO's 5th Global Summit on City Tourism

Egypt’s tourism sector can’t catch a break; every time we think things may be picking up, a plane comes falling from the sky. The truth is, tourists want to come back; they want to take even more photos with the pyramids in the background as they pretend to be perfectly capable of riding camels when, in fact, their local guide had to strap them to the saddle. By God, who wouldn’t?! Even the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) seems to be totally on board with that!

The UNWTO has just announced that the 5th edition of its Global Summit on City Tourism will be held in the Egyptian city of Luxor, which offers Egypt the opportunity to promote its tourism industry.

The summit will host cultural institutions, tourism officials, and professionals from around the world to discuss ways to develop the industry globally while improving the quality of life of local communities.

The summit will be held on November 1st and 2nd at Luxor’s Sonesta St. George Hotel. Day one will see UNWTO Secretary General Taleb Rifai and World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) President & CEO speak. There will also be panels discussing the recent trends and emerging niche markets in city tourism.

On Day two, discussions will revolve around the role culture plays in stimulating the industry’s growth, as well as the digital revolution and millennial travellers’ needs.

And you know Egyptian hospitality dictates we show these guys a good time, so if you're one of the lucky participants, your hard work and patience will be rewarded with Nile cruises and trips to some of the world's most fascinating sites like the Valley of the Kings and the Colossi of Memnon, as well as the Hatshepsut, Karnak, and Luxor Temples.

There will also be a gala dinner at none other than the Sofitel Winter Palace Luxor on October 31st. A little bird tells us the sumptuous affair will be attended by 300 of the who's who of Egypt's tourism industry, together they shall wine and dine at the legendary hotel's iconic garden ahead of the summit.
