Farida Osman and Youssef Elkamash Break Records at the Swimming and Open Water Championships

In some splashing news today, habitual record-breaker Farida Osman has broke the 50 metre butterfly championship record time at the 13th CANA Africa Swimming and Open Water Championships. The 23-year-old earned a gold medal by clocking 26.16 seconds, a new record, ahead of the Algerian Melih Amel with 27.52 seconds.

Egypt’s second championship record time came in the 50 netre breaststroke, where Elkamash edged out the competition with a Championship record time of 28.04 seconds, earning him a precious gold medal.

In the 4x100 metre freestyle relay, Egypt claimed gold by clocking 3 minutes and 36.94 seconds, while neighbors Algeria grabbed the bronze medal. Last but not least (in gold medals), Egypt’s Hania Moro took gold in the 200 metre freestyle.

In the 200m breaststroke, Egypt’s Rowida Hesham saw silver, clocking 3 seconds behind South African Lara Van Niekerk. Ahmed Hamdy saw bronze in the 400 metre individual medley, losing out to South Africans Ayrton Sweeney and Ruan Breytenbach.
