Uber Finally Comes to Cairo

We’ve got some UBER good news, pun 100% intended. Speedy, on-demand cab service Uber, which has taken the rest of the world by storm in recent years, has finally hit the city! While we are, as per usual, way behind, at least it’s here right? YOU’RE NO BETTER THAN US LONDON, OKAY?

The service, which enables you as a passenger to connect to the closest available drivers through a smartphone app, also has the added advantage of letting you track the car via the app and rather conveniently, pay directly with a credit or debit card, instead of pulling out bills and coins and trying to find change and all that jazz.

Uber Cairo is still in what they’ve called their “testing phase” which is basically code for ‘your country and traffic are rather fucked up so we’re still figuring it how the hell this is all gonna work here’. But they’ve delicately described it as “Cairo has some huge transportation obstacles, so we’ll be analysing what we find and making adjustments until we get Cairo right”. Awww, sweet of you to say it so politely guys. So in the meantime, until the official launch, they’ll only be operating in Zamalek, Mohandiseen, and Giza.

Some of the city’s mover and shakers have already tried the service, with, apparently flying colours. Actress and media maven Esaad Younis was passenger zero, the first adventurous person to hitch a ride with the service, and filmmaker Ahmad El Esseily also tried his hand at the quick cab.

Welcome to om el donya ya Uber. Let’s see how our country treats you.
