Edinburgh Resumes Direct Flights to Sharm El Sheikh After a Four-Year Halt

Edinburgh Airport is joining a growing number of UK airports that will be offering direct flights to Sharm El Sheikh in 2020. The flights were stopped in 2015 after the crash of Metrojet Airbus A320 to St. Petersburg.

Now, four years later, the flights have been reintroduced, and tickets have already gone on sale. The flights will be operating on a Monday schedule, with the first flight taking off on November 2nd, 2020.

Gordon Dewar, Chief Executive of Edinburgh Airport, told The Scotsman, “It’s great to see Sharm El Sheikh return to the destination list at Scotland’s busiest airport and provide yet more choice for our passengers, something we always look to deliver.”

Sharm El Sheikh was once a popular destination among European tourists, as the area was known for its gorgeous beaches and an active nightlife. As we witness the gradual rise of Egyptian tourism once again, an increase in direct flight routes should result in an economic boost for the resort destination.
