The Sofitel Legend Old Cataract is one of Egypt’s national treasures. It is an institution that has been visited by famous celebrities and dignitaries from all around the world, with the most notable celebrities inspiring suites in the iconic hotel such as the Agatha Christie and Winston Churchill suites. Joining this prestigious honour of having a suite named after him is none other than the lifesaving national hero Professor Sir Magdi Yacoub.

In terms of Egyptians who have made a global impact, Professor Sir Magdi Yacoub is among the most important Egyptian figures in the last century. He was involved in the restart of British heart transplantation program in 1980, and carried out the first British live lobe lung transplant, going on to perform more transplants than any other surgeon in the worldHis contributions to developing Egypt’s healthcare system are unmatched, and news has emerged that the famous surgeon will be unveiling the third building of the Aswan Heart Centre, which will include 10 outpatient clinics, state-of-the-art laboratories, 22 patient beds, and an auditorium. As a regular guest of Suite 1103 at the Sofitel Legend Old Cataract, they decided to celebrate the occasion by naming his favourite suite after him.

According to General Manager of both the Sofitel Legend Old Cataract and the Sofitel Winter Palace, Rafic Khairallah, "Professor Sir Magdi Yacoub has stayed with us for a long time. Since we already have the Winston Churchill and Agatha Christie suite, the minimum we can do to show our appreciation for his countless contribution to Egypt is to name a suite after him that will honour the legend forever."

The unveiling of the suite is set for October 22nd, which is reportedly the same day that Professor Sir Magdi Yacoub will be opening the 3rd building of Aswan Heart Centre/ Magdi Yacoub Heart Foundation. Invited to this special event are a variety of generous donors, businessmen, and government officials to celebrate the occasion. According to Khairallah, "There will be several important guests attending the hospital opening and afterwards they will return to the hotel, which will be hosting speeches and a special gala dinner in our popular 1902 restaurant."

The event will surely dominate Egyptian headlines as Professor Sir Magdi Yacoub continues to save lives and improve healthcare in Egypt. With the addition to his suite, appreciators of his efforts will finally be able to book a unique insight into the life of Egypt’s greatest surgeon.
