Thomas Cook Cancels All Trips and Travel Packages To Sharm El Sheikh

Another tourism setback for Egypt as Thomas Cook announces that they have cancelled all of its scheduled flights to Egypt's Sharm el Sheikh including Winter 2017/2018 and Summer 2018 holiday packages, according to an update on the agency's website.

The statement was made by the company on Wednesday and confirmed that all five flights per week to Sharm El Sheikh have been cancelled amid fears of terrorism. "The UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office continue to advise against travel to the Sharm El Sheikh airport, and we have no plans to reintroduce a programme to Sharm until after that advice changes," explains the company. All those affected by the cancellations will be offered a refund or the option to change their package to a new destination.

Since the Russian plane crash that took place at the end of 2015, Britain has suspended tourist travel to Sharm El Sheikh and continues to assert that it isn't safe to travel to the area, despite the fact that 231,000 British nationals ignored the travel warnings and enjoyed a trouble-free experience visiting Egypt in 2016.

At the same time, interest in travelling to Egypt is on the rise as Airbnb and Pinterest collected data suggesting that Sharm el Sheikh is the most desirable destination, according to their users.

With plenty of demand to visit Egypt, Thomas Cook announced that they will be adding two flights per week to the Red Sea resort of Marsa Alam in November.
