The Orman Botanical Garden and the Aquarium Grotto Garden Reopen after Months of Closure

If you've ever looked out an apartment window in Giza, you might be close enough to the Orman Botanical Garden to gaze at its lush green expanses. Likewise if you were hanging out at a Zamalek balcony, you might have spotted the stony pathways of the Aquarium Grotto Garden. In both cases, you would have also seen how empty they've been. Now, after months of closure, the Orman Botanical Garden and the Aquarium Grotto Garden are welcoming back visitors and families to their grounds.

As one of the biggest botanical gardens in the world, the Orman garden was established back in 1875 during the reign of Khedive Ismail and spans over 28 feddans. As for the Aquarium Grotto Garden, it opened in 1867 and is home to 49 ponds meant for rare fish species. The aquarium currently displays a selection of mummified fish, turtles and marine reptiles.

The number of visitors allowed to enter the parks will be capped to limit the spread of COVID-19, with a strict rule on wearing masks while roaming inside. All visitors will have their temperatures checked before they can enter.

The same standards for sanitation will be adhered in all the cafeterias and restaurants in the park, in accordance with the regulations set by the Ministry of Health.
