Sharm el-Sheikh Receives First Swiss Air Flight After Six-Year Hiatus

After a lengthy hiatus that had been in effect since October 2015, Sharm el-Sheikh International Airport has received its first flight from Switzerland. The Swiss Air flight from Geneva carried 62 passengers, all of whom were welcomed with a water cannon salute, and were gifted with flowers and souvenirs.

The flights between Geneva and Sharm el-Sheikh are planned to operate once per week on Saturdays, as part of a larger reshaping of Swiss International Airlines' global network to concentrate on leisure travel and holiday destinations. Swiss International Airlines also offers service between Geneva and Hurghada, while connecting Cairo with Switzerland’s largest city, Zurich.

A negative PCR test no older than 72 hours or a rapid antigen test not older than 48 hours is required for all travellers flying into Switzerland if you are not vaccinated against COVID-19, or are unable to present proof of vaccination. If you are in possession of a COVID-19 certificate that shows you are vaccinated and is recognised by Switzerland, you will be exempt from many health-related measures at the border.
