Russia to Resume Flights to Hurghada & Sharm El Sheikh on August 9th

Starting August 9th, Moscow will operate five weekly flights between Hurghada and Sharm El Sheikh each. The decision comes a few weeks after Russian President Vladimir Putin ended a six-year suspension of Russian charter flights to Red Sea resorts.

Russia's Anti-Coronavirus Crisis Centre announced that further increases in flight numbers are on the table, following an assessment of the epidemiological situation in Egypt by a Russian delegation.

The return of Russian tourism in the Red Sea is expected to give the tourism industry a sizable boost; prior to the flight ban, around three million Russian tourists visited Egypt, easily outnumbering all other nationalities. Once flights reopen, about 200,000 to 300,000 Russian tourists are expected to come back each month, according to the Red Sea Tourism Investment Association.
