Marina at Recently Restored Mohamed Ali Palace Opens this May
Visitors will be able to sail to and from Cairo over the Nile to visit the medieval palace.
The new marina at Shubra Al Khaima’s Mohamed Ali Palace is scheduled to open this month, May 2021. Construction on the marina is 80% complete. Once it is open, visitors will be able to sail to and from Cairo over the Nile to visit the medieval palace, a convenience which is hoped to decrease pedestrian traffic around the palace and place Shubra back on the tourist map.
Located just north of Cairo, the palace was built in 1821 as an isolated home-away-from-home for Mohamed Ali Pasha, the founder of modern Egypt. It is considered one of the most unique structures in Egypt due to its gorgeous amalgamation of European and Islamic styles, beautiful painted ceilings and wide, majestic halls.
