Who knew that right on the outskirts of Sheikh Zayed lies an eco camp where you can disconnect from the noise at an environmentally-friendly camp? While many eco camps in Egypt take you out to the desert as far away from civilisation and technology as possible, this one places you within the context of a new paradigm: the middle of an Egyptian organic farm.

Wiiwii’s Organic Farm is located in Kilo 85 on the Alexandrian Desert Road, a mere 20-minute drive from Sheikh Zayed. The farm raises free range chickens, turkeys, goats and sheep organically, alongside dogs and donkeys, many of which you can meet and interact with. The camp was set up by the Wiiwii’s owner, Wael Bashir, who allocated a place on the farm that doubles as a picnic ground.

“At the beginning, it was just a campsite to enjoy nature because it’s not far from Cairo, but inside the camp, you’re completely isolated,” Bashir tells #SceneTraveller. “Then I decided to change it a little bit so I made four tents with two beds each. Regular camping is a sleeping bag, but this new type is called glamorous camping with facilities like toilets, electricity, fire pit, coffee corner, water dispenser, kettle for tea, and parking.”

Everyone who visits the camp gets to tour the farm tand find out about its products, before spending their own time to chill, disconnect, play card games or tawla. The eco camp is powered by solar energy, all the furniture, seating areas, shades, tables, bed, and fence are naturally-made from palm trees. All you need to bring is a reusable water bottle to decrease waste, then enjoy the beauty of nature knowing your stay is environmentally-friendly. They also frequently collaborate with local yoga studios to host their outings, if you want to reconnect with nature.

Nightly rates begin at about EGP 500, or USD 30. To make a reservation, contact Wiiwii’s Eco Camp at +201200640940.
