German Tourism Increases Over 100% to Hurghada and Marsa Alam
Marsa Alam International Airport made it to the top 10 destination airports for Germans.
After a few low seasons which saw bookings to Egypt's top tourist destination take a nose-dive, the number of German vacationers is now on the rise, pushing hotel occupation rates Egypt's Red Sea resorts to pre-2011 levels, FVW reports.
Last May, German arrivals to Hurghada International Airport increased by 102 percent compared to the same period last year, followed by another hike last June, which witnessed a 112 percent increase compared to the same period last year. Similarly, Marsa Alam International Airport made it to the list of top 10 destination airports for German holidaymakers with a 129 percent increase in German bookings to the Red Sea resort town this June.
Despite the declining trend over the past few years, German tourists have traditionally taken a lion's share of tourist arrivals to Egypt. According to a report by CAPMAS in May, Germans represent 35 percent of the total tourists vacationing in Egypt.
