EgyptAir Resumes Direct Flights to Kuwait

One year after Kuwait issued a ban on travellers coming from Egypt, the country’s Civil Aviation Authority has announced that flights between the two states can recommence starting Sunday, September 5th.

The news may provide relief for over 500,000 Egyptians who normally live or work in Kuwait, many of whom have been unable to return home due to the various COVID-19 restrictions that have been implemented over the past 18 months.

EgyptAir will be one of the few airlines permitted to begin flying passengers between the two nations, and will operate two daily flights in business and economy classes.

Passengers eager to jump on the next plane to the gulf state should however be warned: Only those who hold entry visas or residency rights in Kuwait are currently permitted to enter the country. Anyone who is unvaccinated must undergo a state-run hotel quarantine of seven days, whilst any non-Kuwaitis who have been vaccinated with Sinopharm, Sinovac or Sputnik vaccines may only avoid quarantine if they’ve received a third dose of another vaccine. All passengers must travel with a negative PCR test taken no earlier than 72 hours before arrival.
