Diving Activities to Resume in South Sinai this December

South Sinai has decided to resume introductory diving at a number of the governorate's natural reserves, starting December 2020. If you ever felt the need to swim underwater and explore South Sinai's natural wonders, you'll soon be able to attend classes like 'introductory to diving' and 'DSD' at a few of the peninsula’s reserves including North Lagoon, South Lagoon, Temple, White Island, Kharita and El Kahraba.

Diving in these areas was paused in order to protect the reserves and to give them some space for the government to develop a model for sustainable tourism. The Ministry of Environment and Ministry of Tourism conducted several studies on how to work their two goals in parallel to one another.

The decision requires a very strict commitment from all diving centres and tourist facilities to apply environmental controls during their marine activities. Standards, procedures, and technical controls have been provided by the ministry to the diving centres in order to make sure they’re in line with the natural reserves law.
