Jumia Launches Egypt's First Fashion Awards

We’re gonna go out on a limb here and say it’s been a good year for fashion in Egypt. Fashion bloggers dominated the #instasphere, new designers are popping up like Meer cats everywhere, and the online shopping extravaganza that is Jumia made its mark on the city’s sartorial scene. They also launched Jumia Chic, a fashion blog filled with all the style you can stack up in a web page. And now, as 2014 comes to a close, and we all start thinking about some New Year’s resolutions that we will never ever stick to, the blog is launching Egypt’s first annual fashion awards to celebrate the stylish humans of this city.

The announcement was made at Pashion Magazine’s Cairo Fashion Nights event last weekend, where naturally, all the fashion flock was out to play. The awards will feature 12 categories and the Jumia fashion team, along with the perfectly put together peeps at Pashion Magazine, will be selecting the nominees. Readers will then be able to cast their votes by the end of December for three weeks and the winners will be selected based on that and announced at the end of January. So…almost like the CDFA except not quite. But it is the first time we see Egypt getting serious about the fashion industry and highlighting the big players and major contributors.

Of the decision to create these awards, Jumia’s Marketing Manager Tamer El Fiky explained that “2014 has been a notable year for the fashion industry in Egypt. The most respected designers and fashion icons, from the established and influential, to breakthrough names, have been very busy not only creating collections and content but also creating headlines with their milestones and accomplishments and we believe it is our role to award them for their amazing work over the past year.”

The Chic Fashion Annual Award categories will be: Best Fashion Blog, Best Hijab Blog, Best Model, Best Make Up Artist, Best Photographer, Best Beauty Brand, Best Fashion Brand, Best Couture Designer, Best Casual Designer, Best Bags Designer, Best Magazine, and Best Accessories Designer.
