Jordanian Designer Transforms Everyday Cairo Into Dresses!

Amman-based artist Shamekh Bluwi is an illustrator and fashion designer who creates beautiful paper cut-outs where women’s dresses become anything he holds them up against. Clouds, trees, urban landscapes, or Islamic mosaics can become the pattern substituting fabric in his designs, as Bluwi roams the streets of first Amman and then Cairo to give his fashion sketches an edge.

Aside from being stunning fashion drawings, his illustrations provide a unique tool for inspiration, as  the city’s natural colors and the mosque’s architectural forms become possible patterns for the artist’s designs. The artist, whose ethereal drawings inspire thousands, was recognised by some of fashion's biggest names such as Roberto Cavalli, Mary Katrantzou, Stefano Gabbana, Gigi Hadid, and Valentino.

Followed by 10,000 people on his Facebook page and 115,000 on his Instagram feed, Bluwi was recently invited by London-based label Ted Baker to live sketch as part of the event for the brand’s launch in Qatar last May at Lagoona Mall in Doha.
