Tunisian Musician Deena Abdelwahed to Play at Berghain’s New Floor Opening

Berlin’s mythological clubbing destination and “high culture” venue, Berghain, is getting itself an additional dance floor and it’s set to open on Thursday March 23rd at 10PM. ‘Säule’ meaning pillar in German is the name of the new space; it will take over the club’s ground level and has been under construction for some time now.

Tunisian alternative artist Deena Abdelwahed was announced as one of the three artists performing on the first opening night. She will be headlining alongside Mannequin Records head honcho Alessandro Adriani and Colombian multi-disciplinary artist Natalia Escobar.  Deena Abdelwahed, the jazz singer turned experimental electronic musician, has quickly become a prime contributor to the developing alternative music scene in her home country of Tunisia. She worked with jazz legend Fawzy Chekili and was part of the So Soulful jazz group. In 2011 she participated in the World Full of Bass collective, project of Tunisian experimental pioneer Zied Meddeb Hamrouni. In 2014 she briefly joined Arabstazy’s artists and toured with them around Europe and North Africa. Moving to Toulouse in the same year to pursue a solo career, she’s now signed to Paris label Infiné Music and garnering support from the likes of Acid Arab and Xavier Thomas 'dÉbruit'.
