Yes’in Launches Berlin-Based Not On Label with ‘Dikrayat’ LP

It’s not too often you come across a minimal microhouse project emerging from Morocco, but Casablanca-born Berlin-based Yes’in has launched his own label Not On and got it firing with an exquisitely produced LP Dikrayat. The debut project is a fine example of how to make your mark in the region’s electronic scene with 12 polished tracks.

Overall, the LP could be marked as a minimal-microhouse fusion, focusing mainly on the clicks and glitches rather than the groove or punch. Present in the majority of the tracks are similar-sounding elements like clicks, swirls, sound effects, chopped vocals, statics, and shaped white- and pink-noise, including on tracks such as ‘Pad Problem’, ‘TMF’ and ‘Amafoué’, to name a few.
‘Passion of Things’ goes away from microhouse and towards minimalism, making use of punchier kicks and a darker tone by basing a drone in the track. ‘Sacha Fire Club’, meanwhile, stays within the spectrum of house, employing very tight, minimal-sounding kicks, snares, and hi-hats, as well as a simple diatonic harmony with a warm synth on top of a mellow FM bass, finalised with all the clicks and effects of the Romanian (or Rominimal) sound.
