WORD: Zeyne - ‘Mish Asfeh’

On this episode, Jordanian-Palestinian artist Zeyne talks to us about the unapologetic lyrics behind her latest track ‘Mish Asfeh’, where she explores themes of a dysfunctional relationship, and having the courage to end it when the harm outweighs the good.

Zeyne explains that she had put herself in the shoes of someone who is frustrated with their partner, but hesitates to leave them because they feel uncertain about what may come next. ‘Mish Asfeh’ is centred around the moment when that decision is finally made, and a person puts themselves and wellbeing before their unhealthy relationship.

Co-writer and producer of the track, NASIR, also sheds light on the production techniques and structure of the track, as he speaks about the driving drums and percussion, as well as Zeyne’s signature vocal pads, which have become a trademark element in her releases.

WORD is SceneNoise’s new series unpacking the lyrics of our favourite artists from across the MENA region. In each episode, we ask them to shed light on the meaning behind their most iconic verses, taking us behind the scenes of their writing process and between the lines of their penmanship.
