Egyptian Rappers Budgy & Taffy Switch-Up Sounds in 'Al Masdar'

Budgy and Taffy have plenty in common. The two Egyptian natives have a leaning towards London, both have shown a proficiency to rap in English and Arabic, and both have divided rap fans.

On the latter note, that hasn’t stopped either in their tracks, and they’ve both shown that they have plenty to offer on an unpredictable and chaotic Egyptian rap landscape.

It feels fitting, then, that they have come together for a new collaboration, one that sees both step out of their comfort zones, even if just a little. ‘Al Masdar’ is a far cry from the trap and hip-hop stylings both have donned in the past. Produced by Zelzal, the beat is a tropically-coloured, pop-glazed, dancehall-inspired ditty that glides along quite effortlessly to leave the focus on the vocals.

Is this Egyptian rap’s next big viral hit? Probably not. It does, however, mark a return to form for both, this track coming on the back of Budgy’s collaboration with ISSA&ASSOUAD, and Taffy’s role in the all-female ‘Femcee Cypher’ by Big Hass. In short, things are looking up.
