Toure: No Cake, No Play

What the hell is happening with Yaya Toure and Manchester City? What seemed like a joke at first, has now turned into a confusing, heated mess that may see Yaya Toure looking to join a new team after the FIFA World Cup.

The incident began when Yaya Toure felt disrespected by the English club, after they supposedly failed to mark his 31st birthday sufficiently. Yaya Toure took to Twitter to express his disappointment and eluded to wanting to move clubs. At first it seemed like it was all a joke, but then took a confusing turn when Toure's agent, Dmitry Seluk, entered the discussion making strong statements about Toure's discontent and fueling rumours that he wants to move to a new Club.

“Yaya is so upset, he is thinking of leaving City,” Seluk said. “There are a number of things that have happened that have left Yaya feeling bitterly upset. City have treated him with disrespect and have really hurt him. What happened at his birthday meant the club don’t care about him. It was proof. They can say whatever they want, ‘Oh we like him, but we forgot.’ None of them shook his hand on his birthday. It’s really sick.”

Toure has complained on more than one occasion that his ability was overlooked because he was African. However after the agent made this extraordinary statement Yaya Toure took to Twitter (the crossed out tweets have since been deleted):

However, within an hour of the concililatory Tweet, Toure reignited the issue by suggesting that Seluk is speaking on his behalf tweeting: “Everything dimitry said is true,” Touré tweeted. “He speaks for me. I will give an interview after world cup to explain.”

What makes the matter even more confusing is that the Man City released a video of them having cake for his birthday, and point to the fact that they did send him a Tweet wishing him a happy birthday.

It is still very unclear what Toure will do, but this is not the first time his agent has used his disappointment as a way to bolster a better contract for his client.

Man City has made it clear that they do not want to sell or move Toure, but Seluk insists: “No. Money is not important. He has enough money. The most important thing is a human relationship and maybe this is his opportunity for Yaya to find that. If City don’t respect him, then easy – Yaya will leave. No problem.

To further his case Seluk set up a Twitter account especially to explain the issue further:

We're really uncertain if something this hilarious is actually a prank and Seluk and Toure are mesing with everyone, but we'll keep you posted!
