For the second year in a row, TikTok and the Egyptian Food Bank are partnering up for the #CookForGood initiative with prominent chefs and celebrities like Amro Helmi, Manar Hisham and Amira Shanab.
Let’s be honest, we use Ramadan nights as an excuse to stuff ourselves with an exorbitant amount of food. What we don’t realize is that with the increased demand for food, there is also an alarming increase in food waste - wasting valuable resources and depriving those that are most in need. This food waste also leads to higher costs of food disposal in landfills, as well as increased pollution of water, land and air.
For the second year in a row, TikTok and the Egyptian Food Bank are partnering up to tackle food waste by raising awareness of the importance of food preservation with the #CookForGood initiative. Joined by prominent chefs and celebrities like Amro Helmi, Manar Hisham and Amira Shanab, the two brands are encouraging the MENA TikTok community to reduce leftover waste by finding innovative ways to make delicious dishes from leftovers.
“Our partnership with TikTok for the second year in a row will play a positive role in bringing a cultural shift to how Egyptians consume food and manage leftovers, in line with our mission since 2006,” Mohsen Sarhan, CEO of the Egyptian Food Bank, said. “Today, we work with hotels and the Ministry of Tourism to make sure we repurpose the untouched surplus food for the benefit of the most needy groups in various governorates of Egypt.”
For every video created using #CookForGood, TikTok will donate EGP 50 with a cap of USD 50,000. The money will help make iftar baskets for those in need, in cooperation with the Egyptian Food Bank.
