This Local Brand Makes Brilliant (Non-COVID) Masks

Sure, dressing up is usually solely reserved for Halloween night or some random dress-up party, but honestly. Why stop there. Listen to that little kid deep inside your heart. That's right, it says. Being a unicorn who looks like it galloped out of an old PlayStation 1 game IS the coolest thing ever. And with local brand ‘Mask It’, you can buy a completely customizable ‘low poly papercraft’ geometric mask which lets you become the unicorn of your weirdly specific dreams - or any kind of thing from any kind of dream, if you put your mind to it.

“By making customizable masks, we give people an opportunity to get creative with their mask designs,” founder and third year Architecture student, Maya Gamgoum, tells #CairoScene. “We always make sure our designs are as unique as possible to really help people stand out.”

Established in 2018, the brand was born out of the founder's love for origami. The durable masks are made of hardened paper, and because they’re made to order, they need to be ordered at least one week in advance. The brand also makes low poly papercraft deer trophies and piñatas (for a party or just a Saturday night on your own – we don’t judge), and plan to offer more decorations in the future. If you can’t think of any mask designs, some of the ones they currently have on offer include Batman, Ironman, skulls and aliens.
