The Great Cairo Kidathon: Cairo's Cutest Run

Now that summer is on the brink of arrival - much to our low heat tolerance's dismay - we know that the chances of us keeping active and sporty will only decrease, especially with Ramadan just around the corner (red velvet konafa, we're looking at you). Yet, nothing makes us spring back into energy like knowing that a special marathon is being organised to motivate people to get back into shape and adopt healthier lifestyles - and not just any people, we mean adorable little people; kids!

Infamous mountain climber extraordinaire, Omar Samra, is pulling together Cairo's first Kidathon race, taking place on the 6th of May in Zamalek. Muricata, a branch of Samra's Wild Guanabana firm that offers opportunities for youth, has collaborated with Zamalek Guardians group volunteers to figure out the safest route options and logistics for the little tikes to take to the road.

El-Sawy Culture Wheel is the meeting point where on-ground sign-in will take place at 8 AM before the race kicks off from the same location at 9 AM. Three types of runs are available depending on age group: a two km run for six to year-olds accompanied by a parent or guardian, another two km run for kids nine to 11, and finally a four km run for 12 to 14-year-olds.

At the end of the race, 18 winners will be awarded at El-Sawy Culture Wheel, while the day continues with plenty of activities like yoga, arts and crafts, and adventure games, wrapping up with the one and only Cairokee taking the stage.

The kidathon is free, except for the minor and totally heartwarming prerequisite: donating a toy to Marwa Fayed's Toy Run. All donated toys will be distributed to children in Abou El Reesh Hospital. No run has ever sounded cuter.
