Maadi-based rowing academy Row.in, formerly known as Scull N’ Blades, is organising a rowing trip around Cairo’s Manial Island to raise awareness of a special cause. Organised with medical companies Novartis and Shefaa, the trip will help spread the word about immune thrombocytopenia purpura (ITP), a common autoimmune blood disease in Egypt, during Global ITP Week.

Row.in has long been giving people the opportunity to row for a purpose, such as when they hosted ‘Row and Clean Up’ events to fight pollution on the Nile, and when they ran ‘Row for Her’ during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

“I will always take the chance to use sport for community awareness,” Asmaa El Zohairy, founder of Row.in, tells CairoScene. “We want to help people learn about these warriors who suffer from ITP, and it’s our responsibility to use our platform. Rowing for the sake of rowing is fun, but initiatives like these add value to what we offer.”

The event will take place at the Egyptian Sailing Federation on October 1st from 7 AM to 2 PM, with celebs and influencers including Tara Emad lined up to participate. If you want to join in, you can sign up via https://bit.ly/RowinITP.
