New Ultrasound Machine will Help Prevent Railway Accidents

For the first time, the Egyptian Railway Authority received a Plasser and Theurer rail track inspection machine to monitor the conditions of their railways using ultrasound. The new technology has been brought in to help curb the likelihood of train accidents and complications.

The state-of-the-art machine automatically runs next to the railway, and collects data after examining the tracks. It then identifies defects, and fixes them before the trains move. It is also able to estimate when renewals need to be made, and maintains international safety requirements on the railway lines. The machine also includes a control room where operators can fix defects in the railway system on-the-spot.

Founded in 1953, Plasser and Theurer is one of the most trusted producers of maintenance machines around the world. The Railway Authority contracted their machine from Austria in 2018, but were only able to receive it recently.
