Ministry of Environment Launches Campaign Against Plastic Bags

The Ministry of Environment is launching a new social media campaign to raise awareness of the dangers of single-use plastics, and help wean us off our overwhelming addiction to the stuff. Yes, you can shove a bunch of them in a drawer and say you’re saving them for later, but what about the ones you’re going to throw away anyway? Guess where they end up?

The pillars of the ministry’s efforts to limit the use of single-use plastics include conducting studies, developing policies, raising awareness, encouraging community participation, and receiving proposals from civil society organizations.

Minister of Environment Yasmine Fouad recently announced that the national waste law includes an article regulating the use of single-use plastic bags, and that the ministry has developed a national strategy to reduce the use of plastic. They are currently working to issue new regulations that will promote the use of multi-use plastic bags via offering sustainable alternatives that can be presented to businesses.
