Local Initiative Asks You to Put a Water Bowl Out for Egypt's Strays

For Egypt’s stray animals, access to clean water is a difficult business. With the approach of the sweltering summer season, social awareness group Kids Acting Responsibly (KAR) is focusing on animal welfare with their new initiative, #BOW_Egypt.

The initiative simply asks people to put a bowl of water (hence the acronym, BOW) out on their balconies, window sills, in their gardens or in the street to guarantee birds and stray animals aren’t deprived of fresh water during the summer months.

KAR is the work of British-Egyptian Sara Alashri who started the project in 2020, after moving back to Cairo from Dubai. Sara’s mission with KAR is to raise social and animal awareness in Egypt by educating kids via school visits and her online platform. KAR also supports and introduces concepts like adoption, fostering, rescue and trap-neuter-return (TNR) to the next generation.

You can contribute to #BOW_Egypt in three easy, yet impactful steps: put out a bowl of water for your neighborhood furry friends, snap a picture, and share it online under the hashtag #BOW_Egypt while mentioning KAR @thisis_kar.
