So Qatar are putting up a statue of Zinedine Zidane's infamous 2006 World Cup head butt against Marco Materazzi in Doha. None of this makes any sense. Zidane is French/Algerian. Materazzi is Italian and, even though Qatar is hosting the World Cup in 2022, the head butt is not exactly a defining moment of footballing history to be celebrated.
In other news, Egypt's government have decided to put up a statue of Eric Cantona's 'karate kick' on the Corniche.
A new statue of Paul Gascoine having a cry has been erected on the streets of Algiers.
