To get Egyptians to stop relying on their cars as much as they do (which - if recent stats about the country reaching an all-time high of 5 million registered vehicles are to be believed - is altogether too much), Egypt’s upcoming Light Rail Transit (LRT) stations are designed to include large parking areas with a capacity of up to 2,000 cars.

The project is part of an extensive overhaul to Egypt’s mass transport system, which includes the construction of two monorail lines (one extending from East Cairo to the New Administrative Capital and another connecting Giza to Sixth of October City).

The LRT will link El Salam, the New Administrative Capital and 10th of Ramadan City. Its first phase will cost USD 1.3 billion, with its trial operation phase to begin by the end of October.
