Egypt Launches Website for US Expats to Donate to ‘Haya Karima’

In support of the national ‘Haya Karima’ initiative to raise the living standards of more than 50 million citizens in Egypt’s rural areas, the Ministry of Emigration and Expatriate Affairs has launched an online fundraising platform to allow Egyptian expats in the US to donate to the initiative, with the goal of raising one million dollars.

Since its launch in 2019, the ‘Haya Karima’ initiative has allowed the government to spend EGP 700 billion on 4,658 villages and towns. These funds help by developing decent housing, health care, education, culture, infrastructure, clean environmental policies and job opportunities to ensure sustainable, long-term growth, and is partly credited for raising four million citizens over the poverty line.

In addition to its regular fundraising, the new platform will promote a special fundraising event on October 2nd, organised by Egyptian expats in the US and sponsored by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly. Donations from the US can be made with a check in the mail or through the newly created website, hayakarimausa.com.
