Egypt's Gay Activists Are Ready To Fightback

Egypt's gay rights movement is teaming up with activists across the globe to launch a fightback against the brutal anti-gay crackdown.

The 'Solidarity with LGBT' campaign is calling on international activists to show their support for the cause by using the #SolidaritywithEgyptLGBT hashtag to raise awareness around the world.

The news comes just hours after it emerged that gay dating app Grindr is now warning Egyptian users against posting personally identifiable information online.

A message told users: “Egypt is arresting LGBT people and police may be posing as LGBT on social media to entrap you. Please be careful about arranging meetings with people you don’t know and be careful about posting anything that might reveal your identity.”

The decision comes after CairoScene first revealed that Egyptian cops were tracking gay couples online. Meanwhile an Egyptian court also sentenced six men accused of “committing debauchery” to six years in prison.

The men were accused of using their apartment for homosexual activities, promoted through Facebook and are also thought to have appeared in the alleged 'gay wedding' video which went viral earlier this month.
